He definitely doesn’t need Nakamura to show that. The mindset Kasuga exists in is pretty fucked up. That is definitely the most predictable middle school boy response to suddenly getting a girlfriend and becoming way more popular. Oh, those flighty children! Kasuga being totally arrogant about it due to his newfound bliss (if only for a short time) is plenty amusing, too. When Kasuga stands up for Nakamura, he’s basically a cockroach however, when Saeki says, “Yeah, we’re totally boyfriend and girlfriend,” suddenly Kasuga is a Rock Star. This episode is amusing throughout because the kids do so many 180s. He’s still a kid and hasn’t yet had hope stomped out of him by the world at large. Poor Kasuga really hoped that Nakamura just wanted to be friends with Saeki and cheer on their budding relationship from the sidelines. I had the funniest cringe on my face through the entire first half of this episode, mainly because I was waiting for something awful to come and shatter Kasuga’s happiness. I could totally buy Nakamura as a worldly traveler collecting phrases about people boning.
